Our Aim

Project Muskan is a rural mental health initiative that combines mental health literacy, early diagnosis, and community-led support for children aged 7–17. It focuses on identifying signs of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism through clinical and non-clinical interventions delivered by trained peer educators and psychologists. Our project conducts regular interactive sessions that teach children self-awareness, emotional expression, and self-regulation techniques to manage distress in adverse situations. Through games, discussions, and psychotherapeutic activities, children learn to articulate and understand their emotions in realistic, age-appropriate ways. Rooted in cultural sensitivity, Project Muskan builds lasting support systems in underserved areas.

Why a psychologist?

While volunteers from Samarthya and Sundari Outreach are committed facilitators, we may lack the clinical training and cultural-insight required to sensitively navigate emotional expression. In which case a trained psychologist ensures emotional safety, especially during activities that explore feelings, storytelling, or trauma. They help translate therapeutic tools into developmentally appropriate formats and identify early signs of distress or cognitive challenges. While our volunteers are dedicated, a psychologist brings essential psychotherapeutic skill to guide the process and ensure no child is unintentionally harmed or overlooked.
